Well March was yet another busy month for us all, playing at Ballinamallard, Kelly Cellars Bar in Belfast for St Patricks day and Garvagh. All shows went down a storm, and a great time was had by all..

A special mention has to go to Kelly Cellars Bar in Belfast, for giving us such a warm welcome; and letting us play our rip roaring set to a lively St Patricks day gathering.

Well April, hasn't been that quiet either (although our Calendar might seem that way) with the band slaving away in the studio recording our very first album. It was all recorded live, to give a true reflection of our sound and feel towards the music.

So keep watching our twitter, and this website for possible updates on the progress of the recording, the release date; and other insider info..

Update: March 2011

This last number of months has been a mixture of very busy and quiet!

Firstly, We had our first appearance on the radio! We were featured on "A Kist o Wurds" programme, recorded at the Cairncastle Ulster Scots Festival. They played 2 sets of ours... Banjo Breakdown and the Pumpkins Fancy set to close the program.

Next came another weekend at the Port! We played in Portstewart on the Saturday just after the Airshow. It was another of the "Brighter Night Events" organised by Coleraine Council.

For the next performance, we had to travel furher afield to Ballinran, outside Kilkeel and was organised by the Ballinran Flute Band.

The start of October saw us headline a concert organised by the Ulster Scots Agency in Limavady High School. It was a night organised to promote the Ulster Scots tradition in a packed hall. We think it was fair to say that everyone had a brilliant night, with the audience responding well to our banter.

Megargy saw a close to a busy few months with the local hall full to capacity. Again, another brilliant night was had by everyone.

We had a quiet Christmas period and time to plan ahead for 2011. But soon it was January again and Burns Nights all around the country. We had 2 Burns Nights, first in Omagh Library, organised by the Ulster Scots Agency and the 2nd was in Tobermore. Neil also piped in the Haggis both nights, with a huge applause from the appreciative audience.

February was a quiet month for Rightly On as Neil was busy piping each weekend with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland on their National tour, covering Dublin, Belfast, Galway, Mayo and Cork.

March sees a very bsy month for us and you can see all the details on our Calendar.

Rightly On

Update!

The band has been extremely busy from the last update...

First was Drumlough Ulster Scots Night. Held in Drumlough Orange Hall, Hillsborough alongside the Drumlough Pipe Band and another ensemble which included Ian Burrows and Mark Wilson. We played 2 half hour selections to a good crowd who liked to clap along, sing and stamp their feet! The Hall was packed and everyone has an enjoyable night.

Next was Maghera Cultural Night.. a concert which we appeared at last year as well. The line up this year was Maghera Fife and Drum, Eden Accordian Group, Alastair Scott Ceilidh Band, The Wee Lassies along with various other solo artists and ourselves. We finished off the first half with a half hour of our finest tunes to cap off what was an extremely talented first half of artists! Again, another fine night of entertainment from all involved.

Coleraine Borough Council got in contact with us to see if we were interested in performing for 2 nights in Portrush and Portstewart at their new Brighter Nights Programme. THe idea of this programme is to take young people of the streets and entertain them with music provide from the council free of charge to the audience. We were very keen to do this and had 2 one hour shows.. one in Portrush Amphitheatre and the other in Portstewart Bandstand. Both nights seen good crowds in attendance with the saturday night finished of with the appearance of Jimmy Nesbitt in Portrush probably there just to hear us!!

Cairncastle was the next gig on our list and one of the highlights of our year! Situated just outside Larne in a small village was a huge marquee which can hold around 1000 people. With the video cameras there to record for a dvd (which will be available around October), the stage blacked out, coloured lights and smoke machine it was a great venue with a large crowd there in support. It was a great night which other great performances from the Lyttle Family Folk Band and Risin' Stour. This is a great festival well worth attending.

We then had a 3 week break from concerts which made way for the World Pipe Band Championships, a priority for every pipe bands person! Neil was piping at it with Rab there as a spectator!

Rightly On then got invited to play in Belfast City Hall by the Ulster Scots Community Network for an Ulster Scots meeting, it was another great venue, with guests such as UTV's Paul Clarke, Minister for Culture - Nelson McCausland and the Chief Executive of the Ulster Scots Agency all in attendance.

Keep checking back at our Calendar as more gigs will be added shortly. More Videos will also be added to our Gallery asap. Links to the DVD from Cairncastle will be posted as soon as they become available.

Rightly On

A Wee Update

Rightly On have been quite busy this last while, not only with practises but a few gigs too. The first of the gigs was in Larne on Saturday, 29th May. It took the form of a small street festival as a promo for the Cairncastle Ulster Scots and Folk Festival 2010, which Rightly On will be appearing at on Thursday 29th July along with Charlie Gillen, Lyttle Family Folk Band, Rising Stour, Transatlantic Hillbilly Band, and The Bright Light Dancers. It starts at 7.30pm in a large marquee in Cairncastle Village and promises a great night not to be missed.

Anyway, back to Larne and starting proceedings was the Grouse Beaters along woth several other guests. The played for approximately half an hour and then it was our turn. The crowd had started to gather and we entertained them for somewhere in the region of 45 minutes to an hour (nobody is quite sure!).

The next gig on our list was the 400th anniversary of Ulster Scots in Ballybofey, which took place on a gig-rig on the Railway road. Starting the show was the winner of the All-Ireland Talent Show, Chloe Coyle. which provided a great sucess with the local crowd. Rightly On then graced the stage afterwards for a short half hour performance which went down well with the crowd, singing along, clapping their hands and stamping their feet!

Afterwards, we got packed up and headed for McGuigans Bar, Stranorlar for an hour and a half show the same night. The

bar was near enough full and at 11 o'clock, after the darts were over, we played a large selection of music ranging from The Wild Rover to Caledonia, both of which proved a huge sucess. With us finishing at half 12 it was a long day for some and an even longer day for others! Some of the crew decided to stay in Ballybofey that night and make the journey home in the morning, whist others decided to come home that night... or in the morning as it was! Below are a few of the snaps from Ballybofey and Stranorlar.

Thanks to Julie and Zara for the above photos which were taken at various stages throughout the day at Ballybofey and Stranorlar and thanks again to Richard Mckeown for the recent photos which will be appearing all over the website in due course.

Rightly On

A Touch of Tartan

We set off for Letterkenny's "An Grianian Theatre" at 3pm, with keyboard stand and all packed (for a change!). some good driving and bad travellers later we arrived at the theatre. Sound check and all sorted we headed for a well needed feed! The dinner was nicely budgeted out for some at around 3 euro!

Anyway, it was back to business with Jonny even taking the time to tune his guitar we hit the stage for our 15 minute set just after the interval at about half 9. I am glad to report everything went extremely well with a good audience who seemed to enjoy us. The quality of the concert was excellent and I think it is fair to say it was a very good concert, well organised by Letterkenny and District Pipe Band.

We would like to thank Mervyn Elvin and the Letterkenny and District Caledonia Pipe Band for giving us the chance to perform and we wish them all the best for the 2010 competition season starting in a couple of weeks time.

Rightly On
